How this data is collected
Every day we send each hosted server in the directory a real MCP initialize request, then ask for its tool list if it allows that without sign-in. A server counts as requiring sign-in if it answers 401 with a WWW-Authenticate header. Tool counts cover only open servers, because others hide their lists until you sign in.
These numbers describe servers listed on MCP Collection, which makers submit and we review. They are not a count of all MCP servers. You're welcome to quote them with a link to this page.

How is this data collected?
Each day we send every hosted server in our directory a real MCP initialize request, then list its tools if it allows that without sign-in. Local servers are not live-tested.
